Resumo

O livro de Netz é, sem dúvida, o trabalho mais importante em estudos científicos desde Shapin & Schaffer Leviathan and the Air Pump. Recorrendo a um método semiótico e construtivista muito original, consegue redescrever inteiramente a prática da dedução no início da geometria grega. Mostra como essa prática quase não tem conexão com as várias teorias de abstração e convicção que foram oferecidas por filósofos de Platão em diante. Ele oferece a primeira descrição não-formalista sistemática do formalismo em seu estágio histórico inicial. Ao fazê-lo, oferece a melhor ocasião para elaborar uma metalinguagem para falar concretamente da abstração.
